Shannon Buckner Hamblin
Comments for
LHS Sports Hall of Fame
February - 2012

Shannon Buckner was the model student athlete at Lyman High School.  An Honor Roll student all 4 years, she was very dedicated to her teammates and prideful school colors.

In volleyball, Shannon was a 4 year letter winner and the Setter on teams that had winning records each year.  As a sophomore, Shannon earned All Conference and Most Improved.
As a junior, the team had qualified for State and Shannon was named All State & All Conference and Co- MVP on the team.
As a senior, she led the team in winning Conference Championship, Districts & Regional Championship while the team took 5th place at State.  Shannon was the team’s MVP and was All Conference, All Regional & All State!

In basketball, Shannon was the point guard that led LHS to many exciting victories!  She was a 4 year letter winner and MVP her junior and senior year of the team.  She was All Conference for 3 years, All State her junior and senior year and was a key player in winning the State Championship Title in 198?.

As a senior, Shannon was nominated to play in the Summer Wyoming North-South All- Star Game at the University of Wyoming where she led the team in scoring.

Shannon lived up to her name while being a member of the 1982 Wyoming All - Star Basketball team that went to Europe to participate in the High School All Star Tour in Germany & Austria.  This 2 week tour was an opportunity for Shannon and her teammates to experience many cultures and meet many different types of people from all over the world while sharing a sport that bridged much international communication.

Due to Shannon’s outstanding academic and athletic career at LHS, Shannon was highly recruited by many colleges.  Shannon accepted a full ride scholarship for basketball and volleyball with Casper Junior College where she earned her Associates Degree in Business.

In Volleyball, Shannon was Region IX All Conference for 2 years and as a Setter, was part of the history that posted the best team record in the school history up to that point.  She was also the point guard on the women’s basketball team that qualified for the National JUCCO Tournament.

Shannon was a fun and funny teammate.  Known as “Buc”, her quick wit and jokester ways among teammates made each season memorable.  She was proud of her family and always looked out for her most favorite teammate - little sis, Janet, known as “Little Buc,” who was also a gifted and talented teammate and student –athlete.

Shannon prioritized her school activities and always kept family first.  She was active in her Church Ward and never missed an opportunity to make people feel special.  Using her clever humor and quick wit were methods of how she would communicate effectively and make people feel comfortable.

Shannon Buckner Hamblin was truly a “Lady Eagle” that soared so high and accomplished much in her young life.    Shannon belongs in LHS’s Hall of Fame as her spirit remains in the halls of LHS!

Her pride shows and her pride glows!

preference...

so as you very well know i went to preference with james itri. it was a while ago but i wanted to wait to post so i could show some pictures. the day started out with me going up to get him. it was a little scary because james lives up on the mountain and that day it decided to snow. but i made it. we all met up at the school and then we went to the u.v.u. institute building. we played sardines which was so so fun because we got to use all three floors. then we went into the game room and there were two pool tables, two air hockey tables, a foozball table and like four pingpong tables. one time at james' house we played pingpong and i barely lost to him so i was determined to beat him this time! i didn't... but hey, whateves...:) then they all had an ice cream eating competition and of course the group with big huge josh pollard won in like two seconds flat... then we went home and i got to work. i had to get my makeup done and then go to the clawsons to have candice do my hair. she curled it and then tied half of my hair up into a bow! it was super cool! then i went and got james and his family was gone so we came back to my house to do the whole boutonniere/ corsage thing (which i'm not very good at...) then we were off. we went to a church where we took pictures and heather allred's family made us dinner. then it was the whole dance bla bla and it was tangled theme so there were twinkly lights and lanterns. it was super pretty. then after the dance was probably my favorite part! we went to the soccer fields behind the cemetery and lit lanterns like on tangled! ours at first kinda struggled... it hit the ground and then bounced up and flew away! way too cool. then i dropped him off and gave him a hug (you know, the norm...:)) it seriously was one of the best dates i've been on so far! james was so respectful and i had such a fun time!

(this is amy and me before we picked up our dates...)

(her dress totally suits her...)

(oh no first time...)

(what a hansom boy...:))
(good shot of the hair...)

(i kinda love this one...:))

he's baaaack...

so josh made it home safe and sound from his mission in chile. so friday morning at about nine we headed to the airport only to find out from dads smart phone that his plane got delayed an hour so his ten thirty arrival time got pushed to eleven fifteen. these are our car pictures...

we got to the airport and were waiting in the worst anticipation for about forty minutes... here's some proof...

(the whole clan was there...)
so everyone was just waiting when we see a young man in a suit coming down the escalator... it wasn't josh unfortunately, it was some family that apparently was not as excited to see their missionary as we were. about ten minutes after that missionary we slowly start to see some more suits... we slowly get more and more until we see our ver own joshua james hamblin! we were obviously more than thrilled...

(i guess i kinda like him...)

(it was hard to hold the tears back...)

(i'm so jealous of this picture...:))

(oh cute, the new returned missionaries...)

(emma is still getting used to him...:))
 (i love this one...:))

so this was a way way sweet experience. but this wasn't even the best part. the rest of the weekend was way fun too. so after the airport we went to chuck-a-rama... yep. then the drive home was kinda rough because, well the night before hailey decided she couldn't sleep anywhere but in my twin size bed with me so she cuddled up with me at about twelve thirty when i was already asleep. so it was kind of a rough night of sleep. but as soon as we got back josh showed us all this sweet chilean stuff...

(josh thought that this knife was a little much...:))

(apparently the chilean women wear these all the time...)
so all in all i would say it was a pretty stinkin' fun weekend! i got to chill with josh and learned a new phrase that i absolutely love and totally want to get started up at ohs!
